World Mental Health Day
Published: 10 October 2024
Thursday 10th October is World Mental Health Day (https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-mental-health-day)
Mental health impacts us all in some way at different points in our lives. This World Mental Health Day reminds us of the importance of supporting our colleagues and ourselves in the workplace.
As the Global President of Enable_All at Xerox, I am proud that our ERG provides mental health resources and support for our colleagues, especially those with visible or hidden disabilities. Whether offering a listening ear or directing people to suitable support systems, we are here to help.
While individuals who are marginalized or face societal pressures may be at higher risk for poor mental health, we must remember that mental health challenges can impact anyone, no matter their background.
The pressures of work and the pressures people bring into work can impact performance, which in turn leads to greater pressures and increases anxiety and mental health issues. The spiral into poor mental health can increase as support is not sought or withheld.
Look for signs that someone might be struggling. Offer a kind word, actively listen, and guide them toward professional resources when appropriate. Sometimes, just being there is the support they need.
Let’s build a workplace where mental health is openly discussed, and everyone feels supported. Together, we can make a difference—today and every day.
